The Perfect 7-Day Barbados Itinerary

Seven days is enough time to see every corner of Barbados without rushing. Here is how we would plan it — assuming you pick up your rental car at the airport on day one and drop it off on day seven.

Day 1: Arrival and South Coast

Collect your car at Grantley Adams, check in, and take it easy. The south coast — Rockley, Worthing, St. Lawrence Gap — is the right place to start. Swim at Accra Beach, which is calm, central and easy to reach. For dinner, head to the Gap for rum punch and grilled fish. You are in Barbados. You do not need to do anything more than that tonight.

Day 2: Bridgetown and the West Coast

Drive into Bridgetown in the morning before the heat peaks. The Garrison Savannah, the Parliament buildings and Broad Street are all within walking distance of each other. The Barbados Museum is worth an hour. In the afternoon, head up the west coast to Holetown or Speightstown, walk the beach, and stay for sunset. Dinner at a Platinum Coast restaurant if the budget allows.

Day 3: The North

Drive to the top of the island. Animal Flower Cave at the very tip, then St. Nicholas Abbey for a heritage rum tour through the Jacobean estate. Cherry Tree Hill for the panoramic view over the Scotland District. Back down through Speightstown for an early dinner.

Day 4: The East Coast

The best day of the week. Drive through the interior to Bathsheba. Stop at Welchman Hall Gully on the way. The Round House restaurant for lunch with a view of the Soup Bowl. Walk the Bathsheba boardwalk and the rock pools. Drive the east coast road north toward Cattlewash and Barclays Park. Return via St. Andrew through Gun Hill.

Day 5: St. Philip and the Southeast

Foursquare Rum Distillery in the morning. Bottom Bay Beach — one of the most beautiful and least visited on the island — in the afternoon. The beach at Crane Resort is worth a stop even if you are not staying there. Return via Sam Lord’s Castle ruins. Friday evening at the Oistins Fish Fry is non-negotiable.

Day 6: Beach Day

You have been driving all week. Pick your favourite beach — or a new one you have not tried yet — and do nothing. Paynes Bay on the west coast for calm water. Crane Beach for the drama. Silver Sands on the south tip for wind and waves. Let the island come to you for a day.

Day 7: Slow Morning, Airport

A final breakfast somewhere with a sea view. A last swim. Drop the car at the airport — we are flexible on return times, and we will take care of everything from there. Grantley Adams is a 25-minute drive from most of the island.
