Best Time to Visit Barbados: A Month-by-Month Guide
Barbados sits at 13 degrees north of the equator. That means average temperatures of 25–30°C year-round, trade winds keeping things comfortable, and no dramatic cold season. The distinction between a “good” and “bad” time to visit is mostly about rain, prices and crowds — not about whether the island is worth visiting.
High Season: December to April
This is when Barbados is at its busiest and most expensive. The northeast trade winds are at their strongest, keeping temperatures pleasant and humidity lower than the rest of the year. Rain is minimal. Hotels and rental cars book up early, and peak rates apply from mid-December through to Easter. If you are flexible on timing, the shoulder weeks at either end of this window offer the same weather with less of the markup.
Shoulder Season: May and November
May and November are arguably the best months to visit Barbados if you want good weather without the high-season prices and crowds. May sits just before the rainy season begins in earnest. November is when the rains ease off. Both months see temperatures in the high 20s, calmer roads, and better value across hotels and car rental.
Low Season: June to October
This is hurricane season for the wider Caribbean, though Barbados sits at the southern edge of the hurricane belt and is hit far less frequently than other islands. The rains come — typically afternoon showers rather than all-day downpours — and humidity rises. The compensation: prices are at their lowest, the island is quieter, and Crop Over festival (June to August) is one of the best cultural events in the Caribbean. For travellers who do not mind a rain shower, low season Barbados is genuinely excellent value.
Crop Over: June to August
Barbados’s most important cultural festival runs from the beginning of June through to Kadooment Day at the start of August. The island comes alive with calypso competitions, costume bands, food events and the Grand Kadooment parade. If you have never experienced a Caribbean festival, this is one of the best in the region.
Rental Car Availability
During peak season (December to April), rental cars in Barbados book up quickly — particularly larger vehicles and SUVs. If you are visiting during this window, book as early as possible. In low season, availability is better and rates are lower. Either way, apparentcar.com has a live booking system — you can check availability and reserve online immediately.
