Harrison’s Cave, Barbados: Your Complete Visitor Guide
Harrison’s Cave is one of Barbados’s most spectacular natural attractions — a network of active limestone caverns filled with stalactites, stalagmites, underground streams, and a crystal-clear underground lake. Located in the heart of the island, it’s an essential stop on any Barbados itinerary, and best reached with a rental car.
What is Harrison’s Cave?
Formed over millions of years as rainwater dissolved the island’s coral limestone bedrock, Harrison’s Cave is a “living” cave system — it continues to grow and change. The cave was known to locals for centuries but was formally explored and opened to visitors in 1981. Today, visitors explore it aboard electric trams that travel through cathedral-like chambers up to 30 metres high, past dramatic rock formations and flowing streams.
